An individual who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two young males aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.
She stated the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities again.
She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
